“The Malayan Tiger is the symbol of our national pride. In the 1950's more than 3,000 tigers roamed Malaysia's jungles - today less than 200 live in the wild. RIMAU's purpose is to ensure that the Malayan tiger survives into the next century.” - source: rimau.ngo

RIMAU'S VISION STATEMENT

ASSURE THE FUTURE OF OUR TIGERS AS PART OF MALAYSIAN AND WORLD HERITAGE
Our vision is to ensure that the Malayan Tiger is valued as a critical part of our Malaysian and world heritage, and that all steps are taken to preserve and improve our tigers’ chances for survival in the long term.
Our vision incorporates a future where our tiger numbers increase rapidly, they can prosper in well-managed forests with ample prey species for them to feed on, where the threat of poaching has been eliminated, snares have been cleared and no longer represent a dire threat to the well-being of tigers and other forest animals.

We believe that protecting the Malayan Tiger, a flagship species, will help to ensure that our fauna, flora and biodiversity is conserved for our future generations and that of the world.

RIMAU'S MISSION STATEMENT

TO URGENTLY SAVE THE MALAYAN TIGER AND ITS HABITAT

  • Partnering and working with all stakeholders, including Government, NGOs, corporations and individuals to develop effective strategies, practices and sufficient funding to ensure a future for the Malayan Tiger.

  • Working on the development and deployment of a well-trained workforce utilising primarily local Malaysians, especially Orang Asli, who can systematically patrol the forest, ensure that threats to the well-being of our local tigers and wildlife are eliminated using best tiger and forestry management practices, supported by appropriate laws and necessary enforcement.

  • Increasing public awareness and support for the importance of conserving the Malayan Tiger and its habitat and the critical role the government and ordinary Malaysians play in supporting and ensuring the future of our Malayan Tiger as a part of Malaysian and world heritage.

  • Inspiring Malaysians to play a more active role in ensuring the future of this unique animal.
